Medical Students applauded the Red Crescent First Aid Awareness Session

The Training Institute of Pakistan Red Crescent Sindh is constantly disseminating the awareness regarding first aid with an aim to have a First Aider at every home. In this regards, on August 19, 2016 a team of FA Trainers with the supervision of Training Coordinator Dr. Rizwana Wasif conducted a First Aid Orientation for 150 male and female Medical Students at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College (JPMC) Karachi.

Dr. Rizwana said that the adequate knowledge required for handling an emergency without hospital setting at the site of the accident or emergency may not be sufficient as most medical schools do not have formal first aid training in the teaching curriculum. She highlighted the aims and objectives of first aid and explain the methods to save own and someone’s life. In the session FA team also involved the participants in practical demonstrations on CPR on adult, child and infant, heart attack, choking, Bleeding, Wounds and Fracture.

Earlier on August 18, 2016, one day First Aid Orientation was organized for 212 male and female students of Pharmacy Department at Karachi University. The students and the staff of Universities and Education Institutes appreciated and commended the PRC efforts for creating life saving awareness through First Aid sessions.

Dr. Rizwana further said that PRC with the support of ICRC has established a team of 14 First Aid Trainer which are working in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Sanghar, Khairpur, Tharparkar and Jacobabad since April 2016. “In Sindh for last five months these FA trainers have provided First Aid Training to more than 10300 persons including 6988 males and 3351 female”, said Dr. Rizwana.
