Red Crescent starts relief operation for displaced families due to fire in Thar

The Sindh Branch of Pakistan Red Crescent has immediately deployed its team of District Branch Tharparkar to start relief operation at village Vankrio in Taluka Islamkot of district Tharparkar where a number of houses were destroyed by the fire on May 10, 2017.

 

According to initial reports, 275 families have displaced due to fire incident. They are settled in camps by district authorities and other humanitarian organizations are providing food etc. Pakistan Red Crescent district branch Tharparkar has started relief operation with 200 kitchen sets (utensils) in its existing Disaster Preparedness Stock to provide immediately on urgent basis and detailed assessment shall also be started. Provincial Headquarter of Pakistan Red Crescent is in close coordination with district branch for further action on the basis of emergency needs.

 

PRC-Sindh Chairperson Mrs. Farzhana Naek said that Pakistan Red Crescent is everywhere for everyone who needs help. She further said that affected people are in urgent need of kitchen sets, Hygiene kits and clothing along with other Non-food items. She urged all philanthropists to join hands with Red Crescent to help and support the displaced families in Thar.

District Tharparkar in Sindh Province is prone to fire incidents during the months of April to July every year because of heavy winds and storms in extreme hot season. It causes high losses of houses and belongings of the communities. This is second incident during last two months which has destroyed complete villages. PRC Tharparkar branch had responded to previous one and provided 250 Jerry cans on the request of district authorities to contribute in coordinated efforts with other stakeholders.
