Every calamity big or small, leaves behind a trail of misery seriously affecting the social, cultural and economic order which call for an effective planning at pre-disaster and post disaster stages. Unless the managing body is well organized and alert it may cause widespread panic & misery.
The Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Sindh Provincial Branch is constitutionally mandated wit h the responsibility of assisting the Government to carry out humanitarian work in times of peace or conflict. Natural disasters such as drought, famine, floods, earth-quakes.
The purpose of the Disaster Management department is to provide well trained personnel, field staff and enthusiastic volunteers with clear guidelines and procedures in order to carry out efficient and effective relief operation in accordance with the fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement and the Code of Conduct for Disaster Response.
Natural disaster like floods, incessant rains, earth-quakes and epidemics are considered to be beyond they control of human beings. In a sense, therefore, even natural disasters are partly man-made. There is also the category of man-made disaster like wars, bombing and widespread act of terrorism. All countries therefore have to be prepared for meeting disaster, prevent them as far as possible and manage their after-effects by providing relief and rehabilitation to affected people.
Currently PRCS, Sindh branch has been operating eight disaster Management units through district branches including: Thatta, Badin, Dadu, Kamber Shahddadkot, Larkana, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas & Tharparkar, all DM cells are IFRC Funded programmes.
