Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Promotion

Home  /  Water, Sanitation & Hygiene Promotion

The lack of access to safe water and sanitation facilities combined with poor hygiene awareness and practices is a major cause of death and disease in most the developing countries.

The problems caused by a lack of access to safe water and sanitation are made much worse during disasters and crises, and are increasingly influenced by climate change, rapid unplanned urbanisation, increasing epidemics and pandemics, population movement and conflict. Lack of safe water is the most common and preventable underlying cause of disease and death in the world today.

The PRCS water and Sanitation programme is an integrated approach comprising of three components i.e. hygiene promotion, sanitation and water supply in areas affected by disasters.

After WATSAN needs assessment an urgent need for clean drinking water for the affected people was identified.

PRCS, Sindh Water Purification Plant teams deployed in following most affected districts:

• Badin

• Mirpurkhas

• Shaheed Benazirabad

• Sanghar

• Khairpur

Daily production: about 600,000 litres

PRCS, Sindh branch health department also provide hygiene awareness and hygiene kits to many villagers.
